Sheep Worrying - Cleeve Prior

Good morning,

🚨 Livestock Worrying Incident – Appeal for Information 🚨

Officers are investigating a distressing incident of sheep worrying that occurred on 18th August 2025 in Cleeve Prior, in which a sheep was sadly killed.

📸 Please see the attached image of the dog involved. The dog appears to be a young collie which is mostly black other than white paws and chest and a white tip on its tail.

We are asking local residents: Do you recognise this dog? Any information could greatly assist officers with their enquiries.

🐾 Dog owners are reminded to keep their pets under control near livestock. Even well-trained dogs can exhibit unpredictable behaviour around sheep and cows.

👮‍♀️ Police are urging walkers to:

  • Keep dogs on a lead near farmland

  • Prevent dogs from straying onto agricultural land

  • Livestock worrying—where dogs chase or attack farm animals—is a criminal offence under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953.
It causes serious harm to animals, emotional distress, and financial loss to farmers.

Let’s work together to protect our rural communities and their livelihoods.

If you have any information, please contact us via this message.

    Thank you for your support.
